What's in a Name?
The name Dappled Designs was inspired by the poem, Pied Beauty:
"Glory be to God for dappled things –
- Gerard Manley Hopkins
The poem serves as a reminder to glorify God by appreciating the diversity of Creation, particularly in our daily encounters, which can sometimes be the easiest to overlook. It highlights the touch of God found in nature and human endeavors, acknowledging that each person experiences the world uniquely, and is invited to encounter God in and through it all. Despite the constant changing of creation, the poem underscores the unchanging nature of the Creator Himself.
Our hope is that we come to know Him in His vast and unchanging ways,
through the littleness of our lives.
How it all came about...
The inspiration behind Dappled Designs stems from a desire to create and foster connections. After trotting about the globe—living in Ireland, Oregon, New York City, and spending time in Africa—I embraced the role of stay-at-home wife and mother, a lifelong dream that, at times, proved isolating. Drawing from my experiences as a missionary, I felt a strong desire to continue serving the Church and expressing my faith through creative endeavors.
What started as a personal project to enhance my home decor—replacing scattered post-it notes of Saint quotes and Bible verses on mirrors—evolved into a mission to honor the beauty and significance of these messages.
Creativity, as children of the Ultimate Creator, helps us discover and express our true selves. It has been a source of healing for me, especially during times of tragedy, and I hope it brings hope to others navigating life's challenges.
Through collaboration with reliable print providers, I found a way to bring these designs to life, transforming everyday items into expressions of faith and beauty.
One of the aspects of Catholicism that resonates deeply with me is its recognition of God's presence in the tangible aspects of life—a reminder that everyday materials can carry profound spiritual meaning.
I hope that our products offer you the same sense of hope and encouragement that designing them has brought to me.
